Ice Tree

Emotions are like ice. After a storm they stick to you and it can be difficult sometimes to see what is really part of you and what is the product of all those emotional attachments. Guess I'll have to wait until spring to thaw.

Happy Birthday

Awesome people do not just grow on trees. They must be carefully selected from the rest of the merely mediocre ones that you see everyday. When you're lucky enough to know three of them, then you have really got something. And when three of the awesomest people you know where all born on the same day? Well, it just boggles the mind.

Christine, Jess, and Ben: I hope you have a mind-bogglingly awesome birthday!

This is my friend Alison. I don't remember why she was waving a broom in my face, but it must have seemed like a good idea at the time, since I took this picture. You can check out her blog of adventures in South American here.

This is my friend Britt. You may remember her from this post. She's pretty amazing. Pretty and amazing, both at the same time. Right now she's off in Utah doing silly things.

She's actually doing important things. I'm just bitter that Utah stole her away from me.

Stupid Utah.

This week's portrait is of my friend Anna. This Portland inhabitant is a source of almost constant inspiration for me. Every time I talk to her she never fails to put a smile on my face, and I firmly believe one day she will take over the world.

Latest Anna-ism:
Anna: Portland is really a very small town.
Andrea: It has at least a half million people.
Anna: Yea, exactly. Small.

Fall – with a chance of showers

It is about that time of year when the air starts to change from the stickiness of summer to the first bite of fall. The leaves start to turn colors and flutter down to make a carpet of golden flakes. It's the best time of year to go walking, because you hear that reassuring crunch, crunch, crunch every time you take a step. Making piles out of the leaves is even more fun! To me this picture epitomizes everything that I love about fall.

This is one of my all time favorite pictures from my first year at Grinnell.
